Everglades bird species: Purple Gallinule

Down for a wildlife get-a-way trip in the Florida Everglades, while cruising on an airboat I noticed this bird posing for the camera showing us his “good side” as if he knew that AshaRe was close by looking for unsuspecting subjects to take pictures of. 🙂

Well, after doing a bit of research it turns out that this bird is called the American Purple Gallinule and is a local resident here in South Florida according to this article from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.  An interesting fact about the American Purple Gallinule is that they can actually use their long yellow feet to walk on floating lilly pads/debris without sinking!  They can walk on water folks!  (Well, that is with a little help of course).  Enjoy!…
